Comment of the week: “I think it’s a turtle!” 🐢

What a memorable week! We stayed in one bay for the whole week, Coca Point. I mean, why move when you have everything that you could wish for?! Perfect anchoring, lovely friends, endless beaches and calm, clear blue water. 🌴☀

Jonas finally got a chance to start practicing with his new wing foil, this was the perfect place for it. So far it has not been much foiling, more bathing with a board and wing. But everyone enjoyed trying the board behind the dinghy – even if the flight time was short, everyone got up on the foil and had a lot fun.

We also did a visit to Codrington and had a guided tour with George to the Frigate Bird Colony, a nature reserve. It was fascinating to hear George talk about all the birds, nature and how Irma, the hurricane that hit Barbuda really badly in september 2017, destroyed nature and how it has recovered. Barbuda has suffered a lot during the last years, first Irma in 2017 and then due to Covid-19. Fortunately hey have managed to rebuild the houses and infrastructure, nature is recovering and the tourism is starting to come back, which is the main income on the island, which has only 1500 habitants.

One evening, just after we went to bed, we heard something bounce of the hull and we could feel that the boat was hitting something. Not once, several times. Strange when we were at anchor at 5 m depth and far away from the reef and we were not dragging according to the anchor alarm. Well, up we went for a flashlight search. When we get up we saw this enormous turtle well over one meter in size, and realized that when we were sailing on the anchor we were swinging into it. When we shone the flashlight down in the water, the turtle stopped playing with our boat and swam away.

Of course, we have celebrated Axel who turned 15. He started the day with pancakes for breakfast together with friends and then the celebration just continued. What an incredible way to celebrate a birthday!🎂🎁🎉

Next week – the Antigua Cup will take place, the exact spot has not been decided yet, but we will try to be there!
